The Apollo™ Light Pipe utilizes the lowest cost light available - the sun. The sun is an astonishing 93 million miles from the earth, but it's the last 3 feet that count. By directly using sunlight to light a facility, natural light is utilized while using as little energy as possible - regardless of geographical locations. When energy doesn't have to be converted to electricity to run a lighting system, the cost associated for lighting a facility can be reduced to zero.
The displaced energy is extremely valuable because the throughput is delivered when the grid needs it the most - during peak periods. Utility companies are struggling to keep up with their reserve requirements and many are starting to price peak power for what it is truly worth. During optimal conditions, this direct renewable technology can deliver significantly more energy per square meter than traditional photovoltaic technology. The light pipe's conversion losses are also substantially lower than traditional photovoltaic systems.
Historical problems with condensation, bug and dust collection are eliminated by the internally sealed, yet externally breathable unit design. In addition, heat transfer is also reduced. The unique design allows for roof only installation which dramatically reduces installation labour time and avoids interference with internal building operations. Sensor integration ensures the maximum energy is harvested from the light pipe. Even in low light conditions, the sensor can shut off half of the high intensity fluorescent platform to reduce energy consumption by 110 watts per fixture. The wireless integration is FCC approved and can be controlled using a web-based measurement and verification system to maximize energy savings without compromise.

A patent pending design process ensures a water-clear finish with minimal surface tension flaws. The dome material, finish, shape and size allow the Apollo™ Light Pipe to interrupt low sun angles to maximize energy savings.
